Acquiring a Good Road Bike
A good basic level bike can be found at a large sports store or bike shop. There you will find complete bikes for sale, that probably have an alloy frame or a mixture of cheaper components. These basic bikes will ride fairly well but they won’t be very lightweight. To get a bike on the higher end of the entry level, you could start with a nice alloy frame and carbon fork, then with what money you have left, choose your saddle, handlebars, wheel rims and tires. When you get up into a mid-range level of bikes, you can still buy them as a complete cycle in a road bike shop or sports store. But it can be more fun to choose your individual components for your frame. You will first start with a good frame, probably alloy with carbon forks. You can then choose from better alloy seat pins, wheels, handle bars and stem and a comfortable saddle. If you are lucky enough to be in a position to buy the best bike you can afford, you can get into some of the top road bike parts and components of manufacturers such as Campagnolo, Shimano and Mavic. You can get great wheels, deep carbon rims or the best alloy rims and high pressure tires. Your handle bars, seat pin and stem could be either alloy or carbon. Since the frame is the core of your bike and you will want a good one, a great alloy model with carbon forks and maybe a carbon rear triangle might be what you go home with. You may be able to locate an all-carbon frame if you can afford it. A good road bike will make your cycling easier and more fun, so get the best bike you can afford.
